An Access Control System is a microprocessor based circuit board (controller), designed to manage the entrance and exit of people through a secure area. Based on predefined permissions, the Access Control System distinguishes authorized from non-authorized requests for entry.
Whether it be in the form of a Smart Card, Key Holder, Badge or Fingerprint (depending on the requirements of the system), all Access Control Systems assign a unique digital signature to each individual. Upon detection, the controller matches a set of permissions to that digital signature and acts accordingly. Additionally, a log file is created for monitoring purposes, storing the name, time and location of each detection.
Access Control Systems can be implemented as stand alone solutions, requiring only occasional maintenance, (i.e. residential Access Control Systems,) or integrated into an overall security scheme, including CCTV, Elevator Control, etc...
